Nottingham International Microfilm Festival – Official Selection!

Big Dreams - Poster - Official NIM Festival Selection

Received some pretty SWEET news! ‘Big Dreams’ – a film I did a while ago, has gotten into the Nottingham International Microfilm Festival and will be screened on October 18th! I play one of the lead roles – Louise, a sarcastic film executive saddled with a rather incompetent partner-in-crime at the office.

Big Dreams was produced by Antum Films and directed by Ananya Sundararajan.

Abandoned Hospital

Did a photo shoot with Mike O’Malley at an abandoned hospital on Staten Island that has crumbled into the most beautiful state of ruin. This was a children’s hospital dedicated in 1913 to housing tuberculosis patients, most of whom died. Eventually, the development of streptomycin in 1943 cured vast quantities of patients and the hospital was emptied, eventually falling into decay.

Representing The Loft at ITVFest!

ITVFest - Renee Myers & Natalie Faye

Had the most amazing time representing The Loft television pilot with Renée Myers at ITVFest in Dover, Vermont last weekend. Got to spend some time in one of the most unique and beautiful states in America, watch some magnificent films, TV pilots and web series episodes, have a one-on-one meeting with ITVFest judge and Streamin’ Garage CEO, Mike Rotman, and meet a bunch of industry badasses from New York, LA, Chicago, and all over the country! So much talent in one tiny town. Cant wait to go back next year!

The Legendary Swordsman

Natalie Faye in Xiao Ao Jiang Hu

Throwback to the time I was on The Legendary Swordsman – a fantasy period drama set in Ancient China.

This was one of the very first television shows I’d been cast in while living in Singapore, and the first scene I had to shoot was with Chen Tianwen – an incredible actor I’d literally grown up watching on TV since I was 4 or 5. It was a scene in a lake, so I was stripped down to my ancient Chinese ‘undergarments’ with my hair in an elaborate updo and GIANT rubber flippers on my feet because the bottom of the lake was laden with slippery moss-covered rocks. I looked like an amphibious Chinese mer-creature. Of course, the Assistant Director cheerfully informed me 5 seconds before the first take that the lake was really an old rock quarry, and that the shallow waters only extended about 6 to 8 feet from the shore, after which, the lakebed plunged sharply into a deep abyss, and if our flippers slipped and tipped us over, we would likely drown.

Lovely.

Sure, I scuba dive in the open ocean but abysses freak me out. Did you ever see the movie, Abyss?? Thankfully, in the first shot we filmed, all I had to do was giggle flirtatiously as my ‘handmaiden’ and I tried to seduce Chen Tianwen. He was a complete professional – all cool, composed, and “I shoot TV shows in bodies of water over bottomless chasms all the time.” Meanwhile, I could barely tell if I was laughing seductively or crying tears of fear because my feet were 3 inches away from certain death (and possibly evil abyss-dwelling aliens). “Don’t worry,” Tianwen said in Mandarin, waving one airy hand. “If you fall over, I’ll catch you. Just don’t swallow any of the water – it’s full of poisonous algae. THEN you’ll die for sure.”

The final shot of the day was of the three of us screaming as we fled the lake. If I remember correctly, it was my character who saw the danger approach, shouted to the other two, and high-tailed it out of there. After we wrapped, the director came over to tell me that my acting had been superb. “Hěn zìrán,” (“very natural”) he said.

Ha.

Three Blind Mice

I’m super excited to announce that my production company, Lickety Split, has collaborated with No2Mauro Productions to enter the Asian American Film Lab’s 72 Hour Film Shootout competition this year! We have 72 hours to make a film, and this year’s shootout theme is Two Faces.

Yesterday, I stayed up till 5am to finish writing our film, THREE BLIND MICE, directed by the brothers Montgomery and Mackenzie Mauro, and starring myself, Jessica Damouni, Renée Myers, Michael Benzinger, and Montgomery Mauro.

Three Blind Mice is a thriller/mystery heist film and my character, Dahlia, is as crazy as it gets.

Renée Myers as the con woman, Gemma, Natalie Faye as the criminally insane Dahlia, and Jessica Damouni as the master thief, Brooke.
